Run Gozo's Fair Play Initiative We help others
through sport.
Beyond medals and finish lines, Run Gozo gives back. Through the Fair Play Initiative — from building a sports arena in Guatemala to backing Maltese charities — we've turned a Sunday-morning road race into a force for good.
Sport, with a purpose
Il-Ġirja t'Għawdex has evolved into one of the main sporting events in Gozo, with international certifications from European Athletics and Gold Label status from Athletics Malta. But running fast wasn't the only goal.
Alongside the prestige, we decided to add another dimension to our work — using the race as a platform to support causes locally and overseas. Here's what that's looked like in recent years.
What we've done
Peru mission & Animal Welfare Gozo
- Partnered with Serving with Purpose (a local NGO) to assist Fr. Raymond's mission in Peru.
- Partnered with Animal Welfare Gozo to raise awareness about animal adoption and welfare.
OASI Run & San Lawrenz 5K
- Members of the committee assisted OASI in organising their run for the benefit of this Gozitan organisation.
- Supported the San Lawrenz Local Council in growing their 5K event.
3 Maltese charities backed
- Puttinu Cares — €900
- Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health — €700
- Guatemala Foundation — €300
San Lawrenz 5K Run in aid of Guatemala
- Provided technical expertise to a youth group from San Lawrenz running their Believe Love Do – Guatemala project.
- Members of the committee also won the Dwejra Treasure Hunt and donated the €500 prize to the same cause.
Fr. Anton Grech's mission in Guatemala
- 15 volunteers travelled to Guatemala to work hands-on.
- Funds raised built a roof for the GuateMalta Sports Arena.
